The success that was Hillside 2008 could go down in Bellarmine history. The headlining act, Sara Bareilles, has a current radio hit, the tickets sold out and it didn't even rain. The event had an incredible turnout and the audience seemed to really enjoy the show.
Bellarmine senior pitcher Nate Nevin put his name into the BU record books and became the school's all-time strikeout king in a double-header against No. 17 St. Joseph's. But despite the milestone figure, the Knights lost both games by one run, the first 1-0 and the second game 4-3.
What began as a joke has now become a reality. Earlier in the semester, freshmen Guy Vandermosten and Joey Keifer began joking about how it would be fun to have a new fraternity on campus. When Vandermosten relayed the story to his roommate Jacob Murphy, Murphy took the idea seriously and began researching different fraternities and the process of beginning a chapter on Bellarmine's campus.
125 miles. That's the distance between Louisville, Kentucky and Irvine, Kentucky. Many people may not be familiar with Irvine though. This little town, nestled in Estill County, is known for "Where the Bluegrass Kisses the Mountains." But beyond this point in Kentucky, deep in the mountains, lies an act that is destroying mountains, water supplies and a culture. This is mountain top removal.
Four Bellarmine students plan to spend their summers in Africa. For one student, it is returning home to Malawi, but for the other three is it the opportunity of a lifetime.
Nels Popp, Bellarmine's current sports information director will be ending his tenor at the end of this year. Popp, who has worked at Bellarmine since 2004, will be leaving to work at Illinois State University in Bloomington, Illinois.
Get To Know The New Faces At BU!
Nothing is easy, but when I entered Bellarmine's doors nearly four years ago, I did not expect what I got myself into. I've always been average, not the best, but good enough. I'm not the smartest, or the wisest, but I do think I had a great college experience. There were some classes where I fought for every point, days I cried in professors' offices because I just did not understand, times I just wanted to give up, but somehow, some way (probably by the grace of God), I'm going to walk across the stage in Knight's Hall on May 10th.
